Tablespread Terms of Service
Last Updated: June 26, 2026 • Effective Date: June 26, 2026
Plain-Language Summary
Before the legal detail, here is the short version in normal English. If anything here conflicts with the full Terms below, the full Terms control.
- What Tablespread is: a premium menu-planning web app. It helps you capture recipes, plan a week of meals, build a shopping list, manage a pantry, and share all of it with your household.
- The AI (“Sous Chef”): Tablespread uses AI to generate recipes and meal plans, read recipes from photos and links, build shopping lists, and estimate nutrition. You are talking to an AI, not a chef, doctor, or dietitian. No human reviews what the AI produces before you see it. AI can get things wrong.
- Allergies and diets — read this one: Tablespread can filter for allergens and dietary preferences, but it cannot guarantee any recipe, meal, or shopping list is safe for you or free of any allergen. It is a planning aid, not a safety device. You must always read product labels and verify ingredients yourself. If you or someone in your household has a food allergy or medical dietary need, you use this feature at your own risk.
- Nutrition numbers are estimates. Calories, protein, carbs, and fat are approximate, generated by AI, and are not precise enough to rely on for medical, clinical, or therapeutic diets.
- Not medical or health advice. Tablespread is not a doctor, dietitian, or nutritionist. Talk to a qualified professional for anything health-related.
- Subscriptions auto-renew. When paid plans are available, they renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel anytime in your account settings or by emailing us; cancellation stops the next renewal.
- Your data: your recipes, pantry, and household data are yours. We store them with Google Firebase, process AI requests through Anthropic, and handle payments through Stripe. The Tablespread Privacy Policy has the detail.
- Disputes: most disputes are resolved through binding individual arbitration, not court, and not as a class action. You can opt out of arbitration within 30 days by emailing us.
Important — Please Read Carefully
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a legal contract between you (“you,” “User,” or the household member accepting them) and SanctumTools LLC (“SanctumTools,” “Tablespread,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using the Tablespread web application, website, or related services (collectively, the “Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms and the Tablespread Privacy Policy.
If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account, accepting an invitation to a Household, or accessing or using Tablespread, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms, the Tablespread Privacy Policy (incorporated by reference), and all applicable laws and regulations. If you are accepting these Terms on behalf of a Household, you represent that you have authority to bind that Household and its members to the extent permitted by law.
2. Definitions
For clarity, the following defined terms are used throughout these Terms:
- “Service” means the Tablespread web application (a progressive web app), the Tablespread website, and all associated features, content, and functionality.
- “Privacy Policy” means the Tablespread Privacy Policy, which describes how SanctumTools collects, uses, shares, retains, and protects data in connection with Tablespread. The Privacy Policy is incorporated into these Terms by reference. It is distinct from, and does not refer to, the separate SanctumTools wellness/mood-app privacy policy.
- “Sous Chef” or “AI Features” means the artificial-intelligence-powered features of the Service, including recipe generation, recipe parsing from photos/links/text, meal planning, shopping-list consolidation, nutrition estimation, and any allergen or dietary assistance powered by AI.
- “AI-Generated Content” means any recipe, meal plan, shopping list, ingredient, instruction, nutrition estimate, substitution, or other output produced by the AI Features.
- “User Content” means any content you create, upload, capture, paste, or enter into the Service, including recipe photos, recipe links, typed recipes, pantry items, notes, dislikes, dietary preferences, allergen entries, household-member profiles, and receipts.
- “Household” means the shared account unit under which an Owner and invited Members share menus, recipes, lists, and pantry data.
- “Owner” means the User who creates a Household and holds the subscription for it.
- “Member” means a User invited to and participating in a Household, each with their own login.
- “Subscription” means a paid plan (monthly or annual) providing access to premium features of the Service.
3. Description of Service
Tablespread is a menu-planning and household food-management tool. The Service helps you:
- Capture recipes by photo, screenshot, link (URL), or typed text, parsed into structured recipes;
- Generate recipes and weekly meal plans using the AI “Sous Chef”;
- Build and organize a consolidated, categorized shopping list;
- Maintain a recipe library and a soft pantry inventory (including barcode scan-to-populate);
- Estimate nutrition information for recipes;
- Apply allergen and dietary preference filtering;
- Share menus, lists, recipes, and pantry data within a Household.
Tablespread is a planning and organizational tool. It is NOT:
- A source of medical, nutritional, dietary, or health advice;
- A guarantee that any recipe, meal, ingredient, or shopping list is safe, accurate, allergen-free, or suitable for any person, diet, or medical condition;
- A food-safety, allergen-detection, or medical-compliance device;
- A substitute for reading product labels, verifying ingredients, or consulting a qualified professional;
- A grocery, food, or ingredient seller, or a guarantor of any third party’s products.
3.1 AI-Powered Features — Required Disclosure
Notice: this Service uses artificial intelligence.
Tablespread uses AI technology (including large language models and AI vision) to power the Sous Chef and related features. You acknowledge and agree that:
- The AI does not have culinary, nutritional, medical, or food-safety training or licensure;
- No qualified professional reviews AI-Generated Content before you receive it;
- AI responses are automated and generated in real time without human review;
- AI may produce “hallucinations” — output that appears correct but is fabricated, inaccurate, or incomplete, including wrong ingredients, wrong quantities, missing allergens, incorrect cooking instructions, unsafe food-handling steps, or inaccurate nutrition estimates;
- You are interacting with an AI system, not a human chef, dietitian, nutritionist, or physician.
4. Allergen and Dietary Filtering — Critical Disclaimer and Assumption of Risk
This Section is the most important in these Terms. Read it carefully.
4.1 What the Allergen and Dietary Features Do
Tablespread allows you to record food allergies (per Household member) and dietary preferences and goals (such as vegetarian, vegan, low-sodium, or heart-healthy), and attempts to filter, flag, or warn about recipes and ingredients accordingly. For recognized major allergens, the Service uses rule-based matching against a curated allergen dictionary and is designed to err toward warning when uncertain. For user-entered (“custom”) allergens and for dietary preferences, matching is best-effort and more limited.
4.2 No Guarantee of Safety
Tablespread does not, and cannot, guarantee that any recipe, generated meal, ingredient, substitution, shopping list, or product is free of any allergen or safe for you or any person. The allergen and dietary features are planning and informational aids only. They are not a food-safety device, an allergen-detection guarantee, or a substitute for your own verification. Among other limitations, the Service:
- cannot account for cross-contamination, “may contain,” or shared-facility risks, which are not knowable from a recipe;
- cannot know the actual ingredients, formulation, preparation, or labeling of the specific products you buy, which change over time and vary by brand, store, and region;
- relies in part on AI, which may miss, mislabel, or misidentify an allergen or ingredient;
- does not distinguish severity (e.g., intolerance versus anaphylaxis) and treats matters generally; and
- provides custom/free-text allergen matching only on a limited, name-matching, best-effort basis.
4.3 You Must Verify — Always Read Labels
You are solely responsible for verifying the safety and suitability of every ingredient, product, and meal before purchasing, preparing, serving, or consuming it. Always read the labels on the actual products you buy, confirm ingredients independently, and consult a qualified medical professional or allergist regarding any food allergy or medical dietary requirement. Never rely on Tablespread to keep you or anyone in your Household safe from an allergen or to satisfy a medically necessary diet.
4.4 Assumption of Risk
By using the allergen, dietary, recipe, or meal-planning features, you knowingly and voluntarily assume all risk arising from your use of or reliance on those features, including any allergic reaction, adverse health event, illness, injury, or dietary non-compliance. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you agree that SanctumTools is not responsible or liable for any such outcome, and you release SanctumTools from any claim arising from your reliance on the allergen or dietary features.
5. Nutrition Estimates — Disclaimer
Tablespread may display estimated nutrition information (such as calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fat) for recipes and meals. These figures are approximate AI-generated estimates, not precise or verified values. They are not suitable for medical, clinical, therapeutic, diabetic, renal, weight-management, or any other diet requiring nutritional precision. Actual nutritional content depends on the specific ingredients, brands, quantities, substitutions, and preparation you use, which Tablespread cannot know. Do not rely on Tablespread’s nutrition estimates for any health-related decision. If you have a medical condition or follow a medically directed diet, consult your physician or a registered dietitian and rely on verified nutrition labels.
6. No Medical, Nutritional, or Professional Advice
Tablespread does not provide medical, nutritional, dietary, allergy, or other professional health advice, diagnosis, or treatment, and nothing in the Service should be treated as such. The Service and all AI-Generated Content are for general meal-planning and informational purposes only.
- Always seek the advice of your physician, allergist, registered dietitian, or other qualified professional with any questions regarding a food allergy, intolerance, medical condition, or dietary requirement.
- Never disregard or delay seeking professional advice because of anything provided by the Service.
- Use of the Service does not create any doctor-patient, dietitian-client, or other professional relationship between you and SanctumTools, its personnel, or its AI systems.
7. AI-Generated Content Provided “As-Is”
All AI-Generated Content — including recipes, meal plans, ingredient lists, quantities, cooking instructions, substitutions, parsed recipes, and nutrition estimates — is provided on an “as-is” and “as-available” basis and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable. AI-Generated Content is not professional culinary, food-safety, nutritional, or medical advice.
You are solely responsible for reviewing all AI-Generated Content before relying on it, including verifying ingredients, quantities, measurements, cooking temperatures and times, and food-safety steps (for example, safe handling and cooking of meat, poultry, eggs, and seafood). You cook, prepare, and consume any recipe at your own risk. SanctumTools does not warrant that any recipe is accurate, safe, edible, healthy, or fit for any purpose.
The Service is designed to show you parsed and generated recipes for your confirmation before saving; you are responsible for that confirmation and for any errors you do not catch.
8. Subscriptions, Billing, Auto-Renewal, and Cancellation
8.1 Plans and Pricing
Tablespread offers a free tier and paid Subscriptions. As of the Effective Date, only the Free tier is available to use; the paid Subscriptions described below (Plus and Unlimited) launch when paid billing goes live, and the billing terms in this Section 8 apply to them once they are available.
- Free — plan one (1) meal per day. Each meal generates two (2) recipe options for you to choose from.
- Plus — $4.99 per month or $49.90 per year — plan a full week of meals.
- Unlimited — $9.99 per month or $99.90 per year — unlimited meals, and plan up to a month ahead.
Each annual plan is priced at about two months free compared with paying monthly. We may change prices, plans, and free-tier limits prospectively; we will give notice of price changes as described in §8.5 and will not change the price of your current paid term mid-term.
8.2 Auto-Renewal (Negative Option)
Paid Subscriptions automatically renew. Unless you cancel before the end of the current billing period, your Subscription will automatically renew for another period of the same length (monthly or annual), and the payment method on file will be charged the then-current renewal price. By subscribing, you authorize SanctumTools, through our payment processor (Stripe), to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.
8.3 How to Cancel
You may cancel your Subscription at any time through your account settings in the Service or by emailing us at melanie@sanctumtools.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you will retain paid access until then, and you will not be charged for the following period. Cancelling is intended to be at least as easy as subscribing.
8.4 Refunds
Except as required by applicable law or as expressly stated, fees already paid are non-refundable, and cancelling a Subscription does not entitle you to a refund of fees for the current period. We may, in our discretion, provide refunds or credits in individual cases. Nothing in this Section limits any non-waivable refund or cancellation right you have under the law of your state of residence.
8.5 Price and Plan Changes
We may change Subscription prices or the contents of plans. For changes that increase the price of your Subscription or materially reduce what your plan includes, we will give you advance notice (by email and/or in the Service) before the change takes effect on a renewal, and you may cancel before the change applies if you do not agree.
8.6 Free Tier and Fair Use
The free tier and any usage limits (including daily meal and generation limits and abuse caps) are subject to change. We may throttle, limit, or suspend AI Features for any account whose usage significantly exceeds normal personal-household use or that appears automated, bulk, or commercial.
8.7 Taxes
Prices may exclude applicable taxes. You are responsible for any taxes associated with your Subscription, which may be collected by us or our payment processor.
9. Accounts, Eligibility, and Households
9.1 Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction) to create an account or hold a Subscription. By using the Service, you represent that you meet this requirement and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
9.2 Account Security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us promptly of any unauthorized use. Each Household Member must use their own login; account credentials are not to be shared.
9.3 Households and Member Data
A Household is created by an Owner, who may invite Members. Members share menus, recipes, lists, pantry data, and household-member profiles (including dislikes, dietary preferences, and allergen entries) within that Household. You acknowledge that:
- information you enter into a shared Household (including another person’s dietary preferences or allergies) is visible to other Members of that Household;
- you must have authority and, where required, consent to enter another person’s information (including a Member’s or guest’s allergies) into the Service; and
- the Owner controls the Household and Subscription, and may add or remove Members and manage roles and permissions.
10. User Content and License
10.1 Your Content
As between you and SanctumTools, the User Content you provide belongs to you. You are responsible for your User Content and for ensuring you have the rights to provide it (for example, you must have the right to upload a recipe photo or paste a recipe from a third-party source for your personal household use).
10.2 License to Operate the Service
You grant SanctumTools a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, process, reproduce, and display your User Content solely to operate, provide, secure, and improve the Service for you and your Household, including transmitting relevant content to our service providers (such as Anthropic for AI processing) as needed to deliver the AI Features. We may use aggregated and de-identified data to operate and improve the Service.
10.3 Recipes and Ownership of AI-Generated Content
Recipes can be captured from third-party sources, generated by the Sous Chef, or entered by you. You acknowledge that:
- recipe ingredient lists and basic instructions generally are not protected by copyright, but the original expression, photographs, and creative text in a third-party recipe may be; you are responsible for your use of recipes you import from others, and your license is limited to personal Household use;
- to the extent AI-Generated Content can be owned, SanctumTools does not claim ownership of the AI-generated recipes in your library and permits you to use them for your personal, non-commercial Household purposes;
- AI-Generated Content may not be unique to you and may be similar to content generated for other users; and
- you may not resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit AI-Generated Content or the Service’s output.
10.4 Copyright Complaints — DMCA Notice and Takedown
SanctumTools respects the intellectual-property rights of others and responds to notices of alleged copyright infringement in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”), 17 U.S.C. § 512. If you believe that content stored or transmitted through the Service infringes a copyright you own or control, you may send a written notice to our designated agent at melanie@sanctumtools.com that includes:
- a physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on its behalf;
- identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed;
- identification of the material that is claimed to be infringing and information reasonably sufficient to permit us to locate it;
- your contact information (name, address, telephone number, and email address);
- a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law; and
- a statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner’s behalf.
We may remove or disable access to allegedly infringing material, notify the user who provided it, and accept counter-notifications consistent with the DMCA. We may, in appropriate circumstances and in our discretion, terminate the accounts of users who are repeat infringers.
11. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Violate any law or regulation;
- Infringe the intellectual property or other rights of any person (including uploading third-party recipe content you have no right to use);
- Upload malicious code, or attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or other accounts/Households;
- Reverse engineer, decompile, scrape, data-mine, or use automated means to extract data from the Service, except as permitted by applicable law (including good-faith security research);
- Use the Service for any commercial purpose (including operating a food business, reselling recipes or lists, or providing meal-planning services to third parties) without our written permission;
- Attempt to manipulate, jailbreak, or circumvent the AI system’s safety guidelines or usage limits;
- Enter another person’s personal or health-adjacent information (such as allergies) without the authority or consent to do so;
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure; or
- Use the Service in any manner that is fraudulent, harmful, or harassing.
12. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on third-party providers, including:
- Google Firebase / Firestore and Google Sign-In (Google Cloud) — data storage and authentication;
- Anthropic, Inc. — AI processing for the Sous Chef and related AI Features;
- Stripe — payment processing (applicable once paid Subscriptions launch);
- Open Food Facts — barcode/product lookups for the pantry feature.
Tablespread does not use a third-party email marketing or transactional email provider. Any account or notice emails are sent through Google (Firebase Authentication / Google Workspace).
Your use of the Service involves transmitting relevant data to these providers as needed to deliver the Service, as described in the Tablespread Privacy Policy. These providers operate under their own terms and privacy policies. SanctumTools is not responsible for the acts, omissions, accuracy, availability, or data practices of third-party services, including the accuracy of any product, nutrition, or barcode data they supply or any third-party recipe site you import from. Your relationship with any grocery store, brand, or product manufacturer is solely between you and that third party.
13. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. To the fullest extent permitted by law, SanctumTools disclaims all warranties, including:
- Warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement;
- Warranties that the Service or any AI-Generated Content will be accurate, complete, reliable, safe, allergen-free, nutritionally correct, edible, healthy, or fit for any purpose;
- Warranties that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure; and
- Warranties that any errors or defects will be corrected.
We do not warrant that any recipe, meal plan, shopping list, allergen flag, or nutrition estimate will meet your needs, be safe for you or your Household, or produce any particular result.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, and except for liability that cannot be limited under applicable law (including liability for gross negligence, willful misconduct, or fraud):
14.1 No Liability for Certain Outcomes
SanctumTools and its officers, directors, employees, agents, and affiliates shall not be liable for any injury, illness, allergic reaction, adverse health event, property damage, emotional distress, or other harm arising from your use of or reliance on the Service or any AI-Generated Content, including any reliance on allergen filtering, dietary filtering, nutrition estimates, recipes, or food-safety information.
14.2 No Indirect Damages
In no event shall SanctumTools be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, data, or use, whether based on warranty, contract, tort (including negligence), or any other theory, even if advised of the possibility.
14.3 Liability Cap
If, notwithstanding the above, SanctumTools is found liable, its total aggregate liability shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid SanctumTools for the Service in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or (b) One Hundred Dollars ($100).
15. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless SanctumTools LLC and its officers, directors, employees, agents, affiliates, and licensors from and against third-party claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from: (a) your material breach of these Terms; (b) your violation of applicable law; (c) your violation of the rights of another person or entity (including intellectual-property rights in recipes or content you upload); or (d) your User Content, including information you enter about another person without authority or consent.
16. Dispute Resolution and Arbitration
16.1 Informal Resolution First
Before initiating arbitration, you agree to first contact us at melanie@sanctumtools.com and attempt in good faith to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.
16.2 Binding Arbitration
Any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service that is not resolved informally shall be resolved through binding arbitration, not in court, subject to the opt-out and exceptions below.
16.3 Arbitration Procedure
- Arbitration will be conducted by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules.
- Arbitration will take place in Guilford County, North Carolina, or remotely via video conference at your election.
- Each party bears its own costs and attorneys’ fees unless the arbitrator awards them or the AAA Consumer Rules require otherwise.
- The arbitrator’s decision is final and binding.
16.4 Small-Claims Carve-Out
Either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court in the county of the consumer’s residence, provided the claim qualifies and is not consolidated with other claims.
16.5 Class-Action Waiver
Arbitration and claims will be conducted on an individual basis only, not as a class action or representative action. You waive any right to participate in a class action or class-wide arbitration against SanctumTools.
16.6 30-Day Opt-Out
You may opt out of the binding-arbitration and class-action-waiver provisions in §§16.2 and 16.5 by sending written notice to SanctumTools at melanie@sanctumtools.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms. The notice must include your name, the email address on your account, and a statement that you are opting out of arbitration. Opting out will not affect any other part of these Terms.
16.7 Exceptions
Either party may seek injunctive or equitable relief in court for intellectual-property infringement, unauthorized access to the Service, or violations requiring immediate relief.
16.8 Severability of This Arbitration Agreement
If the class-action waiver in §16.5 is found to be unenforceable or invalid as to a particular claim or request for relief, then that claim or request for relief — and only that claim or request — shall be severed from arbitration and proceed in a court of competent jurisdiction, rather than on a class-wide or representative basis in arbitration; the parties do not agree to class-wide arbitration. Except as provided in the preceding sentence, if any other provision of this §16 is found unenforceable, that provision shall be severed and the remainder of this §16 shall remain in full force and effect.
17. Termination
17.1 By You
You may stop using the Service and close your account at any time through your account settings or by contacting us at melanie@sanctumtools.com. Cancelling a paid Subscription is governed by §8.
17.2 By Us
We may suspend or terminate your access for: material violation of these Terms; fraudulent, abusive, or illegal conduct; non-payment; prolonged inactivity following advance notice; or discontinuation of the Service. Except for fraud, abuse, illegal conduct, or non-payment, we will provide reasonable advance notice.
17.3 Effect of Termination
On termination, your right to access the Service ceases. We will handle your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable law. If we terminate a paid Subscription without cause and not for your breach, we will refund any prepaid, unused portion on a pro-rata basis where required by law or as a matter of fairness. Provisions that by their nature survive (including §§4–7, 9.3, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, and 18) remain in effect.
18. General Provisions
18.1 Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Nothing in these Terms deprives consumers of mandatory protections available under the laws of their state of residence.
18.2 Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms with a new “Last Updated” date and, for material changes, by email and/or in-Service notice. For non-material changes, continued use after posting constitutes acceptance. For material changes to dispute resolution, liability, billing, or how we handle your data, we will seek your affirmative consent or provide a clear opportunity to decline by cancelling before the change applies to you.
18.3 Severability
If any provision is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force.
18.4 Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and SanctumTools regarding the Service and supersede all prior agreements on this subject.
18.5 No Waiver
Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it.
18.6 Assignment
You may not assign these Terms without our prior written consent. We may assign them to any successor or affiliate.
18.7 Force Majeure
We are not liable for failures or delays due to causes beyond our reasonable control, including natural disasters, war, labor disputes, third-party service outages, or internet/telecommunications failures.
